Boot Camp for the Wife

I don't know if it would surprise you to know about me or not but, I don't do certain things well in life. Therefore, my husband, true to his accepted duty as my husband, does a lot for our family. Things such as rotating tires, changing oil, balancing checkbooks, paying bills, etc., etc., etc.

Now, mind you, he keeps me up to date, keeping me informed, but he does it better and so the responsibility falls to him and I'm ok with just not being a part of certain tasks. And he's ok knowing its done right, by him. =)

Well, the time has come for me to step up. Marc is heading to boot camp sooner (much sooner) than later and so I have entered what I have termed Boot Camp for the Wife. I really will be the only one to get things done for our family for awhile while Marc is working hard to get us to our next (better) chapter in life.

I've learned all about all the different tasks that will need attention while Marc is unavailable.

The most recent, and if you ask me, the most comical, was how to change a tire. Yes, I know, you're shocked that this intellectual and talented 30-something has NEVER changed a tire, but its true. So, Marc determined that this weekend was the weekend to learn. No big deal, I thought, unscrew a couple lug nuts, change the tire, tighten the lug nuts back up and viola! You have a changed tire.

The first comment Marc made when I emerged from the house toward the garage fresh from my shower was "You know you're going to get dirty, right?" Nah.

Poor, naive, city girl.

I not only changed one tire, I changed EIGHT tires. That's right, rotated the tires on both our cars. I am sore, I am tired, my back hurts and yes, I got very dirty (why he let me take a shower before I don't know). But I now have full confidence that if needed, I will be able to remedy a bad situation that involves a flat tire. Desmond even knows how to help. He jumped right in using the tire iron, tightening and loosening lug nuts. He took right to using tools.

Then came learning how to change the oil....Marc says he'll just have his dad do that. (For real.)

Here's a pic taken on Grandma's phone of Desmond and I tackling the rubber monsters.

And don't worry....Marc double checked my work and re-tightened all the lug nuts so the tires won't randomly fly off next time we drive.

Have a lovely day.
