Productivity

Every time we go to the "big city" we have a long list of things to accomplish. During these last few months with my doctor appointments so frequent I could always put off the things that didn't get accomplished. Now that we aren't going to be frequenting the doctor, however, the list has more urgency to it because we don't know the next time we'll be in WalMart/Costco territory. This last week I had my final checkup with the doctor and a big list of items to get done. That's why I entitled this "productivity" because that is what my week was all about and I am tired because of it! =) We got all our shopping and errands done, although I had to stay one extra day to do so. While I am proud of myself for getting around with two tykes I still underestimate the added time interval. Even when I get to cheat with Grandma B's help it still takes longer than I anticipate.

I was also exstastic to be able to see two good friends and their children. One friend just adopted a sweet baby girl who is just cute as a button and the other friend has two little girls that are very energetic and full of kidisms. We went to the new play center (Imaginarium) and Des had a ball! LOVED it. He ran around giggling for the first 20 minutes until he and another tot had an unfortunate collision. No injuries, but after that he was a little less gusto in his explorations. He also had another close call. A little girl was obsessed with him and followed him until she finally tried to kiss him with mouth wide open. Fortunately Mama was there to save the day and he was not slobbered.

We had a nice laid back weekend. We have started to notice that the more we are getting done the more clingy Des gets. So we try real hard to have him "help" but he is still a little to young to "help" in even simple household duties. So we try to get a bunch done and then settle down and focus on him for awhile. He comes up with something new on an almost daily basis that makes us laugh. He really is a good kid. Jax is also giving us something to smile at: his first responsive smiles are coming out daily now.

My camera is in the shop and it is a process to get the pics from the card without the camera so I'll post pics when I get the camera back.

Victories.....small but great.

This week has been better. Maybe because I was prepared for what to deal with? Or maybe because it really was better? ?

We have actually had a quite a busy week for us home dwellers. We made it to play group on Tuesday (albeit 40 minutes late - but we still made it!). Thursday we had our first play date here at the house with two little boys from play group who's mom was sweet enough to bring us dinner. Monte was the main attraction for all three boys until I took pity on the poor feline and hid him in the guest room (much to his relief I think). Then the two guests kept asking me where the cat was. I underestimated how fascinated little people are with little creatures of other species.

Today was our biggest day: we had a play date with a little boy from church who's mom usually watches Des during choir. We also went to school to introduce Jax to Marc's co-workers. Last, but not least, we did a store run all by ourselves with no help! I am so excited about this because I was truly convinced that I would not being going anywhere with my two boys without another adult present to help tote the cargo. I am getting quite good at my process to put both boys in the car, accomplish intended purpose and then get both boys back into the house. So, like the title says: victory! Small but oh so great! =)

Marc has been busy, as always, but has been great to be coming home a little early every night to help on the Des front. Dinner and bed time continue to be the hardest because both boys become pretty needy around that time and if one is upset they are both upset and that makes dinner and bedtime nearly impossible with two crying babies. But we are making it through, I still feel like I don't get enough time with my Des during the day but I think I just miss all the one-on-one that we used to have.

Des is becoming quite the entertainer. Just tonight a friend stopped over and he went straight to 'ham-it-up' mode. Crazy, silly child! Squeeling and laughing and just performing to the max! He might as well just walk around with a sign that says "Look at me!! I'm teriific!!" =) He is so fun.

Enough babbling: enjoy the photos. Hope you are all well, thanks to those that updated blogs recently I love staying up-to-date on everyone!

Play pal.

Tana and Jax making nice (as nice as Tana gets to other little creatures).

I LOVE this picture of Des and Marc. Its so adult like with Des's hand on his Dad's shoulder.

For Better or For Worse

I wrote this last Friday but couldn't find my camera cord to upload photos.

So this week has been a test in patience as well as endurance. These were my first days with no help (other than a daily Mountain Dew). I'll spare you the details but it has been worse than I anticipated. One day at a time as my mother always says, and that is more true now than ever. And so I have striven to adopt the mantra: let tomorrow worry for itself (Matthew 6:34) as I take on the daily task of appeasing a 15 month old and a one month old. I am reminded of the marriage vow - for better or for worse, because this applies to your commitment to children too. You don't actually sign a contract when you have a kid but the unwritten agreement is very much implied - for better or for worse I'm the mom and it doesn't just mean not leaving the relationship but trying my hardest to make it the best it can be for both of my boys one day at a time.

Des and Marc have one-on-one time every evening before supper and Marc has sort of taken this time to tutor Des in the ways of the world. The project this week was to work on letters. Marc gives Des a letter (we have magnetic letters), says it and then Des does his best to repeat the sound as he sticks it to the door. He actually does really well. We marvel at his accomplishments daily.

Des has also completely perfected the puppy dog eyes move. Occasionally when you tell him "no" for something he gets real quiet, puts his chin down and looks up at you with big blue eyes (tears glistening) and says please (with signs) real nice like. When you say "no" the second time he just stares at you like "really, really? No?" his eyes getting bigger and bigger. Its kinda sad and at the same time you have to suppress a grin and stand your ground. He really is a cute kid.

We have had an enormous outpouring of sympathetic support for Desmond after we posted the "vroom" video. We have had several wheel oriented objects donated to his "vroom" cause and he plays with every one of them, pushing them around with the beloved vroom vroom sound accompanying the motions. Thank you to all who donated to the cause.
