The Beach, take 2

Marc went back to work this last week (he had some time off to help unpack and settle in). Friday he got to play in the band for President Obama. They had some 10,000 people (mostly servicemen/women) assembled to hear Obama's remarks. They flew in on a helicopter and flew out on the helicopter. They also visited Ft. Stewart's Warrior's Walk which is a garden walk with young trees dedicated to fallen soldiers. They followed the event on one of the news channels and *technically* Marc was on TV.... or rather his legs were, he was on a stage right behind where the president entered so the camera caught a small part of the band for a minute.

'Tis the season for parades so Marc was gone most of Saturday doing a parade. But Sunday we decided to try for another beach excursion. This time our venture to the coast was quite successful. Last time it was fun but a bit chilly for any traditional beach activities. This time, however, the weather was perfect. Just hot enough to be in summer wear but just cool enough to not wilt. The water was a bit chilly but we didn't actually immerse ourselves so it all worked out just lovely.

We went to an early church service (surprisingly hard to find here in the south) and then headed to Tybee Island. Jaxter heard Marc and I discussing our lunch options and requested, rather insistently, that he wanted fish. After deciding on a place to eat Marc spotted a parking place and exclaimed "Hot dog!" out of excitement which made Jaxter cry "Noooooo, I wanted fish!". He did get his fish and liked it (surprisingly) .... the ketchup he requested on top of it probably helped. =)

The beach was busy but we found our own little square of sand and path to the waves and the boys jumped right in (literally). The most favorite activity was going out in the waves with Dad and jumping as each one approached and then racing the water back to the sand. Eventually they were shivering and we had to put a sad end to being in the water so we dug holes, built a big hill and sat in the sun to warm up. Back in the car and on our way home Jaxter didn't make it 2 minutes before passing out from exhaustion. Desmond made it about 10 minutes and then he was gone as well. It was a great day and the boys are becoming more and more tolerant to sun block.

Today was the final Month of the Military Child event. It was a big deal. They had at least 20 different bouncy houses set up, face painting, crafts, cotton candy, funnel cakes, hot dogs, popcorn, snow cones, juice, prizes, music. It was great. We went right away hoping to avoid the crowd but everyone had that idea. We still had fun and had plenty of turns on each of the activities. And now we are taking it easy for a little quiet time.

Our "groove" is slowly emerging. There are still a few boxes to be sorted and put away but for the most part everything is in its place and we are almost looking somewhat normal. Although Marc will be busy with 'gigs', the boys and I have lots to do and stay busy with. There are two splash pads here on post, two pools and an indoor playpark if we run out of things to do.

Boys doing playdough while Marc and I hang pictures (well, I was telling Marc where to hang pictures, Marc was doing the actual hanging).

 Busy beach on Tybee Island.

 Jax loved the waves.

One fun activity was to get water from the waves. They would take their bucket and run up to the wave and snatch up some water and run away before the wave had a chance to get their feet. I don't know how they decided this was a game to play but it occupied a lot of time.

 Jumping over waves with Dad.

 Jaxter's turn.

Requisite being buried in the sand.

 Jaxter helping.

 Warming up.

 First-ever snow cones.

The hot dogs were served with celery and carrots and both boys immediately transferred their "salad" to my plate.... I did something wrong in their upbringing....

 One of the bouncies.

You can't see it too well, but there were three rows of bouncies and then some set up.

Cotton candy. It feels so weird but tastes so good!

Desmond jumping the waves.

Jaxter jumping the waves (watch in between Marc's legs and you'll see Jax bouncing in anticipation).

Adventures in Georgia

I do not even know where to start in narrating our adventures here in Georgia. Probably at the beginning.

Our first night with Dad - reading books for bedtime!

 First night at destination.

 Desmond, tired, tired!

The boys love that we live somewhere with palm trees in abundance! They are still excited to see them even though we've been here for 3 weeks.

There is literally a playground for every residential block and many more scattered throughout the base. Every time we turned around we found another park to put on our to-do list.

Our second night at Ft. Stewart Marc had a gig so we used it as an excuse to have a pizza and movie night. This is our "picnic". Anything done on a blanket is dubbed "picnic" by the boys. The post has a library and lots of DVDs to pick from.

Our first weekend was a holiday for Marc and so we headed out to .... THE BEACH! The boys have been talking about the beach since before Marc left so this was a big day!

"Des, where are we?" "The Beach!!!"

Too bad the weather didn't quite cooperate.....

Jax spent most of the time just like this....Des explored for a short while but eventually sought cover.

Not before having a little fun, first.

Visiting the Sea Turtle Center that was close by.

The Sea Turtle Center is a rescue/hospital for turtles that are sick or injured.

 The "spider web park".

 Visiting the On-Post Museum.

Preparing for Easter Eggs...hotel style. (We were in an extended stay hotel [aka temp housing] for 11 days before our house opened up.)

 Applied the final touches.

Jaxter showing his Easter Eggs...and his claws (can't remember why he had his claws out, such is life with a boy, I s'pose).

Ft. Stewart has a lot of programs for kids, especially the 0-5 set. We also happen to be here in the Month of the Military Child so there are even more activities being put on. This is the aftermath of the Easter Egg hunt. The boys opened their treasures and then put all the eggs in the alligators mouth, thinking he needed a treat, too. This is actually part of the mini golf course they have here.

This is the indoor play area on post. They have a special time in the morning for 0-5years old which is great.  Its also air conditioned which is also great. 3 stories of climbing fun....

Des smokin' Dad with a little planking. It turned into a competition and if Des hadn't started cheating (by sticking his bum in the air) he might won. =)

The boys making sure that Dad is going to come back after work.

 Story time at library.

Marc's band buddies playing a gig at a puppet show. (Marc's not in there.)

 Boys watching the ensemble.

Meeting the star of the puppet show - Sgt. Rocky, the official mascot of the Dog Faced Soldier here at Ft. Stewart.

Jaxter finally getting up enough nerve to approach the puppets.

Exploring an army vehicle. "Look, Mom! They have TV! What do they watch on their TV?"

Another event. This one had face painting, which is quickly becoming a favorite activity of the boys.

The event also had sand boxes, painting...

bouncy house....

 and ice cream! =D

We have been so busy that the boys got literally wore out. We were doing our first real grocery shopping and Des and Jax *fell asleep* in the grocery cart... This has never happened before and they drew many amused gazes. It was the quietest shopping trip ever! And yes, Jax is resting his chin on the cereal he chose.

This is our first morning in our new house (no more temp housing!). We had a special day and ate breakfast on the counter since we didn't have any table or chairs.

Jax asking if he could have the cookies that we bought to give the movers.

 Its our stuff!

 Jax getting packed up.

And so it begins... the hard part! Fortunately the movers did all the unloading, we just had to do the unpacking. Quite the process.

Dad and Jax bought me a flower. Jaxter's signature is at the top above Dad's.

This is our first adventure to Savannah. We decided to see what all the fuss was about at Five Guys' Burgers. My good friend Tara is always raving about them so we had to try it. I have to say they were good! Even Marc said it was a good burger, and that's saying something!

Jax taking a big bite.

Visiting a local wildlife center. Local animals along trails.... fun day. We saw lots of different animals including wolves, armadillos, birds of all kinds, racoons, farm animals and we got to feed turtles.

The boys helping Dad with the empty boxes.

Our first, for real, things all put away, at *home* supper.

This is the Wheels Day here at Fort Stewart. The boys had a lot of fun trying all the different horns. They also had half a dozen bouncy houses set up that were a big hit as well.

Last but not least....Marc taught the boys how to play duck hunt today. Very big milestone, the first playing-of-video games.

First time at the beach....

They have a couple of these at a couple different playgrounds.... lots of fun. =)

Have had quite a few days of rain lately, Dad took the boys playing in the puddles. Great fun...

Puddles on the go.... now that's inventive....

Have a lovely day!
