Firsts

We been a busy little family. Sorry there haven't been any posts for awhile. Des had his first long car trip. We went to Denver with Grandma and Grandpa to visit Des's cousin Jacoby who turned one a week after we left. It was a lot of fun to see how the two interacted (or didn't interact as the case may be). Des had his first photo shoot. We took advantage of a Sears special and had the cousins photographed together. Des rolled over for the first time and everyone in the house saw it but me! Oh well, I believe them, since then Marc has been Des's personal trainer for rolling over - although he cheats. He puts Des's arm under his body and then he rolls over very easily. Des had his first rice cereal after his 4 month check up. He got his first 'big boy' seat (bumbo chair). He was also put in the nursery at church for the first time here in Greybull, which was short lived cuz' mama here couldn't stand it. =) He got his first one-on-one with Aunt Corrina which turned out to be fantastic for both of him. He slept better for her than he does for me!

So here we are trying to get back in the swing of things. Des is still full-on in his anti-sleep campaign, its starting to wear me out to the point that I've resorted to caffeinated beverages. (In small amounts, because I'm sure if Des got a little of that it would only *help* his cause and worsen mine!)

That's all. I hope you're doing well. We're not too exciting these days. Marc has a busy month ahead of him with musical festivals and what-not. I'm rearranging furniture and trying to catch up on the "corner cleaning" that has been neglected since we welcomed a newborn into our household. =)

Two little guys sitting still *and* smiling at the same time?

Prouder grandparents, there are not.

Retaliation

Des read my post about the "paci-wars" and has retaliated by launching a 'no-sleep' campaign. For about 2 weeks he has woke up frequently at night and vetoed all nap attempts. We went to choir practice sunday evening and I let him suck on his thumb so he would be quiet while we rehearsed and that night he slept till 4 am! Woo-hoo! But I'm back on the no-thumb war path so we'll see what he does tonight, Marc thinks that he'll just end up loving choir because so many good feelings come from it (ie the thumb). Official score - Mom: 1 Des: 0.5

Every day Des gets mat time on the floor while mom takes a 3 minute shower. I s'pose I've watched too many movies but I always am straining my ear for the psychopath bursting in the door to steal my baby. The other day I've got soap in my hair and it happens: somebody is stomping around my house: bump bump bump. I quick rinse off and run out of the bathroom to run after my baby in a heroic save. But - baby fine, cats in exactly the same place I left them before the shower. But there was seriously a bump, bump, bump... Go back to the bathroom to finish getting ready and again the noise! I walk out to where Des is (about 6 feet from the bathroom) and wait for it - sure enough bump bump - my ecstatic boy is thumping his feet on the floor in response to his musical toy. Sheesh, I really gotta stop watching scary movies.

Des is working hard on his falsetto this week - he tenses up with a wide mouth and tries to squeal but all he gets is the begining and the end. But he is extremely pleased with his accomplishments. Today he got the whole squeal twice and that made him try to squeal again.

I got to revisit my high school days this last weekend. I was asked to help judge the speech and debate meet. It was a lot of fun to do (although I gotta say I probably take it much more seriously than I should). Des got to have Grandma and Grandpa babysit. The hardest part was trying to comprehend the last arguments of a policy debate after only getting 5 hours of sleep. =)

*Almost* buddies.

We got great-grandma home to Iowa safe and sound. We also got to see a couple friends in Montana and then home again to WY for resumption of *normal* life. Grandpa B. bought us a new George Foreman grill - the one that has all the interchangeable plates for all sorts of fun cooking so we spent the weekend playing with that - making omelets and cookies (yes, cookies on a grill, see pic below). Seeing as we don't have TV we didn't watch the Super Bowl but instead watched Beetle Juice (I forgot how weird that movie was). We had a cranky/tired little boy on our hands all day so, even though we had invites for parties, we decided to stay home where Des could fuss in peace. We had some bad news this week as we found out that one of the two good restaurants in the area burned down. We just ate there last Sunday and now it is *gone* and I do mean gone. Very sad. They don't know the cause. We don't know what the owners will do but we are hopeful they will cook again - we really liked the place.

Despite the crankiness, we are seeing more and more of a little boy coming out in Des. He is really close to sitting up and really far from rolling over - he hates being on his tummy, I can't get him to stay there for more than 5 minutes without him turning beet red in protest - and by that point he's not getting any benefit from tummy time because he is just screaming his guts out and not "practicing." Oh well, I'm sure the kids in preschool will pressure him into turning over at one point or another. =)

And now a reality check, I've been in MT for the majority of two weeks "partying" and now I have to face my house, the laundry and the cleaning... part of the joy of choosing to go domestic. =)

Dad and Des reading books.

An Iowa friend sent us a Hawkeye hat - its a little big but he'll grow into it.

These are the cookies on the grill - you close the grill on them and they cook till really soft then you take them off to "crisp up." They weren't bad at all.

Lazy Sunday afternoon - I don't have any more room on my lap.. Its nice though that the kitties are braving Des to be cuddly again. =)
