Retaliation

Des read my post about the "paci-wars" and has retaliated by launching a 'no-sleep' campaign. For about 2 weeks he has woke up frequently at night and vetoed all nap attempts. We went to choir practice sunday evening and I let him suck on his thumb so he would be quiet while we rehearsed and that night he slept till 4 am! Woo-hoo! But I'm back on the no-thumb war path so we'll see what he does tonight, Marc thinks that he'll just end up loving choir because so many good feelings come from it (ie the thumb). Official score - Mom: 1 Des: 0.5

Every day Des gets mat time on the floor while mom takes a 3 minute shower. I s'pose I've watched too many movies but I always am straining my ear for the psychopath bursting in the door to steal my baby. The other day I've got soap in my hair and it happens: somebody is stomping around my house: bump bump bump. I quick rinse off and run out of the bathroom to run after my baby in a heroic save. But - baby fine, cats in exactly the same place I left them before the shower. But there was seriously a bump, bump, bump... Go back to the bathroom to finish getting ready and again the noise! I walk out to where Des is (about 6 feet from the bathroom) and wait for it - sure enough bump bump - my ecstatic boy is thumping his feet on the floor in response to his musical toy. Sheesh, I really gotta stop watching scary movies.

Des is working hard on his falsetto this week - he tenses up with a wide mouth and tries to squeal but all he gets is the begining and the end. But he is extremely pleased with his accomplishments. Today he got the whole squeal twice and that made him try to squeal again.

I got to revisit my high school days this last weekend. I was asked to help judge the speech and debate meet. It was a lot of fun to do (although I gotta say I probably take it much more seriously than I should). Des got to have Grandma and Grandpa babysit. The hardest part was trying to comprehend the last arguments of a policy debate after only getting 5 hours of sleep. =)

*Almost* buddies.

Mom and son.

Hey Jill,
I love your stories! John & I went through the thumb vs. paci battle where at night he would spit the paci out and suck his thumb. This happened for a couple of months. I didn't mind it, b/c he soothed himself back to sleep, but now all he wants is his pacifier to sleep. So maybe Des will go through that same phase!
